Some of our Commonly Asked Questions
Q1. How many people can play in one room?
Our rooms are ideally designed for 3-5 players. You also have the option for teams of 2 and 6, as we acknowledge that there is demand for smaller and larger groups. Please note that a group of just 2, may struggle a little to complete all the elements contained in the adventure in the allotted time. Please note that a group of 6 is a little large for the size of our rooms, though as you access secret chambers and additional rooms there will be more space.
Q2. Are your escape rooms scary?
Only Zone 13: The Zombie Trap has horror elements. Meltdown: A Nuclear Nightmare is designed with a tense and unsettling atmosphere. Murder Case: The Accused isn’t scary. Jo-jo’s Jungle Rescue is a family friendly fun adventure – although it does contain a huge gorilla, which most children adore but may be imposing to nervous kids.
Q3. Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, advance booking is recommended to secure your preferred date and time slot. Walk-ins are welcome but subject to availability.
Q4. How long is each escape game?
Each game lasts 60 minutes, with an additional 10–15 minutes for briefing and debriefing.
Q5. What if we don’t escape in time?
Each room has an intercom device behind the entrance door which you can press if you need a hint. Your Game Host will also be monitoring your progress and (unless advised otherwise) can help you back on track if you’re heading down the wrong path. Obviously, not every team will complete the adventure, but you should have fun along the way.
Q6. Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit, but please read the full details for each room for lower age restrictions. None of the rooms are suitable for very small children, and any group containing under 16’s must include at least one adult. Jo-Jo’s Jungle Rescue is especially family-friendly!
Q7. Can we play with just two people?
Yes! All of our rooms can be played by two players, though we recommend 3–5 for the best experience.
Q8. Is it suitable for people with claustrophobia or anxiety?
Our rooms are not physically locked, and players can leave at any time through the door they entered, however there are enclosed spaces in some rooms. Are you anxious about tense or scary environments? Choosing the correct room may be the best option for ensuring an enjoyable visit. Everyone is different so please liaise with our friendly staff prior to booking; we can potentially amend elements of the adventure if necessary — we’re here to help! email: info@drtrilbyescaperooms.com
Q9. What is your alcohol policy?
We strongly advise that you do not arrive at the Escape Room having consumed alcohol. If any of our staff members suspect that you have drunk too much when you arrive you may not be able to participate in the game for safety reasons and no refund will be issued. We are a licenced premises and offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. If you wish to arrive early in order to have a couple of drinks prior to your game this is fine but please drink responsibly. You may also stay for a drink after your game is completed.
Q10. What should I wear?
We would recommend wearing comfortable, casual, non-restrictive clothing. Please avoid heels and don’t wear expensive garments. We want you to be focused on solving the puzzles and having a good time rather than worrying about your clothing. Fancy dress is welcome.
Q11. Are the Escape Rooms suitable for wheelchair users?
All of our rooms are on the ground floor with no steps or stairs in the main communal areas. Our building is in the main historic High Street of Daventry and therefore doesn’t benefit from specifically designed modern accessibility for wheelchairs. The entrance to each of the four Escape Rooms has a standard sized door and there are plenty of puzzles to attempt in the first room. It will however be the case that all aspects of each Escape Room aren’t possible to experience as there are elements which require crawling, using steps, reaching high places etc. The toilet is not accessible for wheelchair users. We advise that you contact us prior to making a booking so we can discuss how we can best ensure you can enjoy your visit. email: info@drtrilbyescaperooms.co.uk
Q12. Can I use my mobile phone and/or take photos?
On entering our premises, please refrain from taking photographs. We have lockers for all valuables for each team, and all mobile phones must be placed in the locker prior to entering your chosen Escape Room. A team photo can be taken by your host (optional) which can potentially be displayed on our leader board – you can wear Dr Trilby hats, jackets, and canes if you like! We can send you a mounted hard copy by post as a memento of your visit for £6. We request that reviewers and bloggers ask permission prior to using any images that belong or are licenced to us.
Q13. When should I arrive for my booking?
You should arrive 15 minutes before the time stated on your booking confirmation to allow time for your team to go the toilet and then have your health and safety briefing, followed by the game story. If you arrive any time after your booking (game start time), we reserve the right to refuse play. Anything more than 15 minutes late and your booking will be classed as a ‘no show’ and no refund will be given.
Q14. Can I add extra people once I have bookied?
Yes, it’s possible to add extra people (up to a maximum of six in total) after you have made a booking. Contact us to let us know and we can amend the booking – email: info@drtrilbyescaperooms.co.uk. You can pay the additional fee by card on the day of the booking.
Q15. Do your games incorporate actors?
We have live actor interaction only in Zone 13: The Zombie Trap. Our staff will dress as (spoiler alert) ZOMBIES in order to enhance the experience for your team. This means they will scare and ‘attack’ you; please remember that they are not actual members of the undead so when confronted by a zombie DO NOT physically interact or attempt to fight off the actor. When they unexpectedly appear, it is possible that brief, minimal contact can occur; our zombies wear rubber gloves and will not attempt to grab or strike you with any force. If a zombie attacks you, the recommended course of action is to move away to a safe distance. You may also wish to scream!
PLEASE NOTE: If a member of your team is unnecessarily rough or aggressive with any actor, the game will be stopped, and the team may be asked to leave the premises. Safety of both staff and customers is our top priority.
Q16. Will I actually be locked in a room?
Some Escape Rooms do physically lock you in the room, however we always leave the entrance door to the room unlocked. If you wish to step out for any reason we ask where possible to firstly press the intercom to talk to your host so that they can assist you, however where you feel you need to exit immediately, you can. Please note that the clock will not stop if you exit mid-game!
Q17. Do you offer any discounts?
Yes, the discount is built into the price, the more people you bring, the cheaper it is per person.
We also offer a Blue Light discount which is 10% off the total price of your game; to do this, send us an email via the contact page, with your contact telephone number and we’ll do the booking over the phone. We do not refund the 10% if you make your booking online on our website. You must also bring your Blue Light Card on the day that you play. You must have at least one card holder per room. Please contact us if you need any more information.
Q18. Do I need to bring anything with me?
Everything you need is provided! Please do NOT bring your own torches, pens/paper etc. These are not required; any tools that you need are in the room. Obviously, if you usually wear glasses, hearing aids etc then please bring those! We provide a locker for each team to place their mobile phones and valuables in prior to the start of each game.
Q19. Why was our game stopped?
We reserve the right to stop any games in progress, or not to commence a game, should our staff feel uncomfortable or become aware of safety issues. Repeated failure to abide by the safety instructions or listen to your host’s directions will result in the game being terminated and no refunds given. The rules are there to make everyone safe and have a good time.
Rowdy or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. Players who are suspected of being intoxicated by drugs, or excess alcohol will not be allowed to play.
Q20. Where should I park?
Daventry Town Centre benefits from free parking. We recommend using the Old Gas Works Long Stay Car Park which is large, free and has no time restrictions. It is a short walk of roughly 3 minutes to our premises. The carpark’s postcode is NN11 9YB.
